MLS All-Star Game

The MLS All-Stars, led by Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy, came out in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Liga MX… who also came out in a 4-2-3-1.

CF Monterrey striker German Berterame opened the scoring, scoring in the 16th minute off a header, assisted by Club America midfielder Jonathan dos Santos.

The MLS All-Stars responded quickly through the hometown duo of Columbus Crew forwards, with Cucho Hernandez scoring off a low driven Diego Rossi cross.

Major League Soccer made their first substitutions of the night in the 26th minute, as did Liga MX shortly after in the 30th minute.

Robin Lod (Minnesota), Aaron Herrera (DC) and Diego Luna (Salt Lake) came on for starters Evander, Keegan Rosenberry, and Hector Herrera.

For Liga MX, Rodrigo Duardo, Solomon Rondón, Alvaro Fidalgo, and Kevin Mier came on for Jonathan dos Santos, German Berterame, Carlos Rodriguez and Luis Malagon.

Liga MX would score again, with Oussama Idrissi scoring from outside the box to send the Liga MX All-Stars into the halftime break up 2-1.

Liga MX made six changes at halftime, with Juan Brunetta, Brian Garcia, Jesus Angulo, Alan Bautista, Maximiliano Meza, and Unai Bilbao coming on for Gonzalo Piovi, Bryan Gonzalez, Javairo Dilrosun, Andre-Pierre Gignaz, Oussama Idrissi, and Alan Mozo.

MLS came out with a brand new XI – Christian Benteke, Hany Mukhtar, Denis Bouanga, Riqui Puig, Maxime Choiniere, Luca Orellano, Moise Bombito, Rudy Camacho, Steven Moreira, Federico Bernardeschi, and Hugo Lloris taking the pitch down a goal. This also meant Nancy’s side adopted his 3-4-3 look in the second half, with Bernardeschi and Orellano playing the wide midfield/wingback role.

MLS had multiple chances at goal, including a shot from Riqui Puig from outside the box that struck the right post.

MLS followed suit in the 66th minute, with Gabriel Pec, Petar Musa, Darlington Nagbe ,and Maarten Paes coming on for Denis Bouanga, Christian Benteke, Maxime Choiniere, and Hugo Lloris.

Liga MX found the back of the net shortly after, scoring two goals in the 68th and 69th minutes of the match. Juan Brunetta scored the third goal of the match, and Maximiliano Meza shortly followed with the fourth of the match to effectively seal the victory.
