Peru and Chile played to a goalless draw in their opening Group A match of the Copa América 2024 on Friday, June 21, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The clash, known as the 'Pacific Classic,' saw both teams sharing points in a game full of chances but lacking goals.

The Peruvian team, now under the guidance of Jorge Fossati, faced off against Ricardo Gareca's Chile, with the match generating significant anticipation. Defenses were the stars of the show, with Carlos Zambrano standing out for Peru. However, injuries forced Alexander Callens and Luis Advíncula off the field.

For Chile, Alexis Sánchez and Ben Brereton spearheaded the attack, while goalkeeper Claudio Bravo delivered a solid performance, keeping a clean sheet. In the second half, Paolo Guerrero made an appearance, marking his participation in six different Copa América tournaments (2007, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2024).

The result leaves both teams tied for second place in Group A with one point each, trailing Argentina, who lead the group with three points following their 2-0 victory over Canada. Canada, with no points, sits at the bottom of the group.

Looking ahead, Peru will face Canada on Tuesday, June 25, at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City at 5:00 p.m. On the same day, Chile will take on Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford at 8:00 p.m.
