The Mexican National Team is in its worst crisis since 1978; the lack of victories lately in the Nations League against their nemesis, the US National Team, and two potential Copa America winners, Brazil and Uruguay, demonstrate that Jaime Lozano´s team has a long way to go to improve their level.
Mexico 1-0 Bolivia
The Mexican National Team has not been related to wins lately; one of the few cases of such a thing was against Bolivia on May 31st. A goal by Xolos de Tijuana attacker Efrain Alvarez was enough to bring joy to the Mexican fanbase that witnessed it in the Chicago Bears´ stadium Soldier Field. To make matters less credible, this game was played by a U-23 roster that did not qualify for the Olympics and was eliminated from the tournament.
Now, let´s move on and see how ¨El Tri¨ did against the big dogs
Mexico 0-4 Uruguay: It Could be Worse
With the actual roster, questionable due to the absence of players like Herny Martin and Hirving Lozano, Mexico stepped at Denver Broncos´ stadium Empower Field intimidated and with a lack of ideas. Darwin Nuñez scored a hat trick in the 7th, 44th, and 49th minute respectively. Facundo Pellistri also scored in the 29th minute. Mexico, on the other hand, had a solitary goal shot by Roberto Alvarado that ended up in the crossbar.
Raul ¨El Tala¨ Rangel had a forgettable debut in goal; Jesus Gallardo was an avenue on the right side, Edson Alvarez was found on the other side of the field while playing as a single pivot, and the so-called ¨false 9¨ did not receive any balls.
Moving on, the green, white, and red would face an opponent which against it competes historically, even at this precarious level
Mexico 2-3 Brazil: Young Star, Late Goal
Jaime Lozano´s team was, once again, exposed by a Brazilian National Team that, according to members of the press, was their ¨B´ version. The secondary squad had a 2-goal advantage Andres Pereira scored in the firth minute; Gabriel Martinelli put his name on the scoring sheet in the 54th minute.
Jordi Cortizo and Guillermo Martinez, two of the newest members of the Mexican National Team, were brough in the second half seeking more variety in attack. Such search ended with an own goal by Yan Couto in the 79th minute and ¨Memo¨ Martinez in stoppage time brought some hope and enthusiasm. Brazil, with the score tied with two goals each, brought the 17-year-old newest Real Madrid player Endrick. With an assist by recent Champions League winner Vinicius Jr, the player that is known as ¨the new Pele¨ placed the third and final goal for the ¨Verde Amarela¨
Copa America: a Journey without Hope
The Mexican press is divided between the excessive enthusiasts and the programmed pessimists. The current level is a great chance for those with the second agenda to have a feast criticizing every move Jaime Lozano makes.
Mexico will start against Jamaica on Saturday, June 22 at Houston; then they will travel to LA´s own SoFi Stadium to play against Venezuela; last but not least, ¨El Tri¨ goes to Arizona´s State Farm Stadium to play against Ecuador.
Will Mexico move forward to play, potentially, against Argentina, last-time villain Chile, Peru, or Canada in either A T & T Stadium or back at NRG Stadium?
The immediate answer is NO
