La Selecta is Ready for the First Test

La Selecta has their roster for the first two games of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers against Puerto Rico and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

On May 31, FESFUT (Salvadoran Football Federation) and Head Coach David Dóniga announced the official roster for the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will kick off this upcoming FIFA International break. The rivals are Puerto Rico at El Salvador, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and a friendly against Peru at Subaru Park on June 14.

The final roster was revealed right on the deadline, shrouded in secrecy due to the intriguing situation around some key players, such as the Gil Brothers. Bryan Gil, a player of immense talent, was notably sidelined for the last three games in Colombia for an apparent injury, adding to the mystery. Mayer Gil is not included in the final 31-man list.

Doniga was asked about Mayer's situation, leaving with the expectation of a technical decision or an injury.

"Let's talk about those who are here, not about those who are not," Dóniga said.

Also, Styven Vásquez was in doubt after having a good season with Luis Ángel Firpo.

David Dóniga had in mind who were the men representing El Salvador this time from a while ago. CONCACAF states that nations should have a preliminary list before the games.

The list comprises nationals and players playing abroad, some representing the USL, MLS, European, and South American leagues.
