Colombo Nets Brace as AC Milan Triumph 3-2 Over Manchester City

Lorenzo Colombo scored twice to lead AC Milan to a thrilling 3-2 win over Premier League champions Manchester City in a pre-season friendly held at Yankee Stadium in New York on Saturday.

The match, City's second high-scoring defeat of their U.S. tour following a 4-3 loss to Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, saw the reigning Premier League champions take an early lead. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a low finish from Oscar Bobb’s cut-in, putting City ahead at the home ground of City Football Group’s New York City FC.

AC Milan responded with a quick turnaround just before the half-hour mark. Colombo, the Italian Under-21 striker, capitalized on two precise crosses from Samuel Chukwueze to score twice in four minutes, giving Milan a 2-1 lead.

City equalized in the 55th minute when young midfielder James McAtee converted a cross from substitute Micah Hamilton. However, Milan secured the win with a late goal from Marco Nasti, who found the net 12 minutes before the final whistle after replacing Colombo.

U.S. men’s national team star Christian Pulisic made his first appearance since the Copa America elimination, receiving a warm ovation from the Yankee Stadium crowd.

City were again without key players Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and Kyle Walker, who were rested following their Euro 2024 commitments, while Julián Álvarez remained with Argentina for the Olympic Games.

Pep Guardiola’s side will next face his former team, Barcelona, in Orlando on Tuesday, while AC Milan will take on Real Madrid at Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday.
